BAG

Bag A container made of paper, plastic, or cloth used for carrying or storing things, e.g. for potatoes, sugar
Backpack(US) = knapsack = rucksack A bag strapped to the back from the shoulders, used by hikers, climbers, etc
Bale A large bundle of paper, straw, goods, etc pressed together and tied with a rope or wire ready to be moved, sold, etc
Bundle A collection of things fastened or tied together
Briefcase A flat leather or plastic case for carrying documents
Bumbag A small bag on a belt you wear around your waist to keep money
Case A container for holding a large number of separate things e.g. for bottles
Case = suitcase a container or cover for keeping or protecting things
Duffle bag A long tube-shaped canvas bag closed by a drw-string
Hamper A large basket with a hinged lid, esp one containing food, wine
Handbag = purse(US) A small bag for money, keys, etc, carried esp by women
Haversack A strong(usu canvas) bag carried on the back or over the shoulder
Holdall = carry- all(US) A large (usu soft) bag for holding clothes, etc when travelling
Luggage= baggage(US) Bags, suitcases, etc containing sb’ s belongings and taken  on a journey
Pannier One of a pair of bags on either side of the back wheel of a bicycle, horse, donkey
Punnet A small basket made of very thin wood, plastic, etc and used as a container
Purse A small bag for money( formerly closed by drawing strings together and now usu with a clasp)
Reticule A woman’ s small bag, usu made of net, etc and shaped like a pouch with a drawstring neck
Satchel A small leather or canvas bag, usu carried over the shoulders and used for carrying school books, etc
Shoulder bag A bag hung over the shoulder by a long strap
Skip A large(usu open) metal container for carrying away rubbish, esp from a building site
Trug A shallow basket used by gardeners to carry tools, plants, etc
Trunk A large box with a hinged lid for storing or transporting clothes or other items
Wallet = billfold(US) = pocket-book(US) A small flat folding case, usu made of leather, carried in the pocket and used esp for holding banknotes, documents, etc

Piece An amount of a substance (separated or broken) from a larger piece e.g. glass, wood, bread, cake, meat
Slab A thick, flat, often rectangular or square piece of wood, stone, or other solid substance
Wedge A piece of wood or metal that is thick at one end and narrow at the other to a sharp edge, used e.g. to split wood or rock

BARREL

Barrel A large round container with flat ends and bulging in the middle, made of wood, plastic or metal

Ewer A large wide-mouthed jug for holding water

Flask (US) a bottle with a narrow neck, containing or storing oil, wine, etc
Hip flask A small flat-sided bottle of metal or (often leather-covered) glass that is used for carrying alcoholic spirits in the pocket
Jug = pitcher(US) A deep vessel, with a handle and a lip, for holding and pouring liquid- milk, coffee, water
Magnum A bottle containing 1,5 litres of wine or spirits
Phial = vial A small glass container, esp one for liquids in medicine or perfumery
Urn A large metal container with a top, in which tea, coffee, etc is made or from which it is served, eg in cafes or canteens
